On August 13th, Larry Sweetser, ESJPA's Principal Consultant, testified on behalf of the Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) at a joint Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee/Senate Environmental Quality Committee oversight hearing on hazardous waste reforms.
At the most recent convening of the Rural Counties Environmental Services Joint Powers Authority (ESJPA), the Board of Directors unanimously approved a new program to allow public solid waste jurisdictions that are not otherwise eligible to join ESJPA through an RCRC member county to join as participating entities.
On December 7, 2023, ESJPA staff, Board members, and staff from CalRecycle toured the Visions Quality Coatings facility located in Sacramento. Staff from Visions provided an overview of paint recycling and manufacturing conducted on-site, as well as education on the distribution of products to enhance the circular economy.
The Rural Counties’ Environmental Services Joint Powers Authority (ESJPA) held its Fall Board of Directors meeting on October 19, 2023. The Board held extensive discussions on (1) CalRecycle’s organics recycling program; and (2) how to work with recent recommendations by the Little Hoover Commission to improve its implementation for rural jurisdictions.
CalRecycle has opened the Local Assistance Grant Program to Implement SB 1383. This non-competitive grant program will provide funding to local jurisdictions to assist with the implementation of regulation requirements associated with SB 1383.
